My Lord Duke,

Referring to my telegram of the 8th September

1923, I have the honour to inform Your Grace that the late

Mr. E. A. Johnson, Lighthouse Keeper died in Waglan Light-

house at 4 a.m. on the 6th September, 1923. Mr. Johnson had

been in indifferent health with fever and ague since the

28th of August but he apparently did not consider it serious enough to send for a relief as these attacks were fairly frequent. Early on the morning of the 6th he was found by

the Assistant Lightkeeper walking about in a delirious

condition. He was put to bed and assistance was signalled for to a passing ship the 8.8. "Achilles". A doctor arrived at 4.30 a.m., too late to be of any assistance.

I have the honour to be,

My Lord Duke,

Your Grace's most obedient

humble servant,

3.2. Statts

Governor, &c.

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

THE DUKE OF DEVONSHIRE, K.G..
